18th March 2024: David Mulo, the founder of Green-Kenya, reflects on a decade of growth.
Time flies so fast! It feels like it was just the other day G-K was founded. I remember when I decided to impact the lives of young people through play. It was one of the most fulfilling passions in my life, and I wondered what I could do to create a safe, fun, and learning environment for children in different communities. We started with one school in Nairobi, Shauri Moyo community in Eastlands, back in 2014. Since then, a lot has changed.
Green-Kenya has grown into a reputable Sport for Development organization. We are the leaders in Sport for Development Climate Action in Africa. We have impacted over 15,000 Children in different parts of Africa. Our programs have evolved into five main divisions: the Social Impact Program, Women Up, Environmental Literacy, Social Impact Consultancy, and Football Academy.
Green-Kenya has worked closely with Coaches across continents, the global leader in Education Outside the Classroom. to design its curriculum and the delivery of the sessions both in schools and year-round consultancy to empower Community impact Coaches in different communities in Africa.
Over the years, Green Kenya has also worked closely with the Pollination Project, which assisted G-K in accessing its first seed grant. This opportunity opened doors to unforeseen possibilities. We have also partnered with the UEFA Foundation for Children to develop the first toolkit aimed at helping youth reduce their carbon footprint. Additionally, we have worked with Excellent Operation consultants to create and improve structures in our organization. We also partnered with 10 Billion Strong to train young leaders to take bold steps towards environmental consciousness. We have collaborated with the US. Embassy Nairobi, Public Diplomacy section, to champion environmental justice. Additionally, we partnered with Pamoja Girls to eradicate all forms of gender equality. Also, we have worked with Collaborative Ventures, GlobalGiving, and other organizations.
All these could not have been possible without the passion and dedication of some unsung heroes like the community Coaches, the Green-Kenya Committee team, and community schools. I want to thank our Board of directors for their wisdom and guidance over the years. Thank you, Elin and Per Hansen, for the support over the last decade. We would also like to thank our donors for their support.
