In partnership with Coaches across continents, we believe in the transformative power of sports to uplift communities and shape futures. Our recent on-field training sessions in Majengo Informal Settlement, Ziwani, Buruburu, and Mathare in Nairobi have been a testament to this mission. Over the course of our on-field, we empowered over 60 coaches and impacted the lives of more than 4,000 children, focusing on critical themes such as bringing the UNSDGs to life, coach education, child protection, purposeful planning, and personal development.
Our training sessions integrated the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) into every activity, fostering a sense of global citizenship among the participants. Through interactive sports activities, we highlighted goals such as quality education, good health and well-being, gender equality, and reduced inequalities. Coaches learned about these global goals in a fun and engaging manner, understanding their importance and how they can contribute to achieving them in their own communities.
Coach Education
Recognizing the pivotal role coaches play in our programs, we dedicated significant resources to their education and development. Over 60 coaches received comprehensive training, enhancing their skills in effective communication, leadership, principle of play among other skills. This training ensured that they are not only better coaches but also role models and mentors for the children they guide.
Child Protection
Child protection is a cornerstone of the on-field training. During the training, we provided coaches with in-depth knowledge of safeguarding policies and best practices. Emphasizing the creation of a safe and supportive environment, we ensured that all children participating in community programs feel secure and valued. This focus on child protection builds trust within the communities we serve and guarantees that every child can engage in our activities without fear.
Purposeful Play and Personal Development
Our training also emphasized the importance of purposeful play and personal development. We encouraged coaches to design structured, goal-oriented training sessions that address the diverse needs of the children. Additionally, we focused on personal development, helping coaches set goals, build self-confidence, and develop essential life skills. By nurturing these qualities, we aim to equip children with the tools they need to succeed both on and off the field.
The on-field training in Majengo Informal Settlement, Ziwani, Buruburu, and Mathare has had a profound and positive impact on both coaches and children. The overwhelming feedback from participants and their families reaffirms our commitment to expanding and enhancing our programs.
Looking ahead, Coaches across continents and Green-Kenya are dedicated to continuing there mission of using sports as a vehicle for development and empowerment. We are excited to reach even more coaches and children, fostering a brighter and more equitable future for all.
