Green-Kenya is working closely with 10 Billion Strong and Wise Hub, in partnership with U.S. Embassy Nairobi, to implement a 12month program to engage civil society organizations and high school and university students in activities that advance environmental justice, especially in communities that are marginalized and/or underserved.

About 10 Billion strong – 10 Billion Strong is an environmental leadership organization which works towards a world where everyone can identify as a leader and is equipped and empowered to create solutions to environmental challenges.
The program will serve a total of 87 Kenyan youth and young professionals. At least 50% will be from counties outside of Kenya’s five largest metropolitan areas. 15 American university students and 12 American professional mentors will also support the program virtually. The first component of the program will serve 60 of high school students aged 15-18 in underserved communities in Nairobi and Kisumu. These participants will enroll in Green- Kenya’s Kick and Conserve program, which uses soccer to inspire youth to develop leadership skills, healthy habits, and an awareness of local environmental issues.

The second component of the program will serve 15 American and 15 Kenyan university students aged 18-26 to join together in a virtual environmental leadership program focused on environmental literacy, leadership development, civic engagement, and eco-entrepreneurship. The Kenyan cohort will also engage in an in-person project segment and community event after the virtual training.
The third component will serve 12 Kenyan CBO & NGO leaders aged 18-30 whose work centers on environmental issues and civic engagement. This component of the program will focus on eco-entrepreneurship training, leadership and management skill development, network and community building, and adapting American solutions to environmental challenges in Kenya. Additionally, each Kenyan NGO leader will be matched with an American mentor to support their professional development. This hybrid program will include online training and connections with mentors as well two in-person three-day training institutes in Kenya.
